After a disappointing few days on the plains, we decided to go back to the mountains. This time to Kazbegi, or Stephansminda. We had a lazy couple of days in lovely surroundings, and then went back to Tbilisi. On the way we stopped by what seemed like a natural spring, and many people on the road were filling their bottles with the waters. Fintan climbed to the top (I made it aboout half way up before feeling so sick from vertigo!) and guess what he found?! Yep, a rusty old pipe sticking out of the ground... mmm, nice!
The drive was nice though, and on the way we also saw a strange monument of a tired old man, and a beautiful old church and fortress that looks out over the dam at Ananauri.
Back in Tbilisi we chose to stay on the Left Bank of the river not far from the Avlabari Metro station. I had previously assumed that the poor layout of stairwells and low door ways were just a case of poor planning, or Jones style construction. But on the Metro it became quickly apparent that it's just that Georgians are actually very short! I hadn't noticed until Fintan pointed out that we could see all the way along the train... no one was as tall as us, and that's not saying much! Although, I'm tall for a girl!
Another thing about the Metro - cheap and efficient as it is, the descent into the underground is terrifyingly steep! Unfortunately no photos to show for it, you just have to believe me!
