19 June - Nepal - Chitwan National Park
Our 6am call ensured we were ready for breakfast & departure at 7am ... Although it did not rain much overnight the river is flowing fast & 'dear leader' has decided that a 'jeep' is in order to take us to the crocodile farm. Off we judder ...... Not good for backs...into potholes, spraying red water everywhere, then bounce bounce bounce.. No suspension to be felt. We get led a very circuitous route towards the crocodiles in the hopes of seeing a rhino. Trouble is motorbikes roar around the tracks too so no surprise no seeing any animals.
After an hour of bone jarring we are back in the park scanning for animals... I have to say we are a little cynical & think yeah ... Right !!! Only for the tourists !!!
However, we do see a large curious rhino right next to the road & what's more he posed for photos ... We could see the skin folds that make them look armor plate. After that we are all on a high, so by the time we are back at the hotel it's lunch & beers all round. R & I are the only ones game to venture out into the monsoon rain to ride an elephant,
It was great value for $$$$ at $NZ 30 for 2 hours but a bit long for me. However, we saw lots of local deer & monkeys really close up & had an experience to share with the others on our return.
Dinner at the hotel with 3 ladies from our group. Thank goodness they are the ' wine drinking' lot so we had a fun night talking travel etc. R had his iPad & did some work.
