On the 14th July we headed for Dunedin, a university town that also homed Cadbury's world. We got there and went for a walk around the town. The following day was Rebecca's birthday, so we had arranged to go to Cadbury's World and then to go and see Harry Potter in the evening. The tour around the factory was good, we got lots of free chocolate but it was the stuff that no-one really likes, so we came across a shop that wanted chocolate to give to a children's home, so we did that. We then had some dinner and made some popcorn and headed for opening night of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. The cinema was packed, lots of people were dressed up and had twigs for wands. We then went for drinks afterwards.
We left Dunedin on the 17th July, we stopped off at Baldwin Street, the steepest street in the world, Seems walked up with Dan and Rebecca but Sheens couldn't go because of her leg. She was still in a bit of pain. We arrived in Lake Tekapo at about 4pm and met up with Jo and Caroline again, we had arranged to go star gazing with them. So we were picked up at 7pm and headed up Mount John to the observatory. We were given a brief talk about the stars, and then we were shown Saturn and Jupiter through telescopes, Seems also managed to take some cool photos of the Southern Cross constellation. We also saw the Milky Way, we were very lucky and had a very clear night.
The view from our hostel of Lake Tekapo was amazing, Seems went for a long walk up Mount John to see the view of the town, it was too long for Sheens so she just went to the town and the Good Sheppard Church.
We then arrived back in Christchurch on the 20th July and left the next morning, we got the train to Picton which was a lovely coastal journey and then got on the ferry across to Wellington on the North Island. The weather in Wellington was not cool, it was very wet. We visited the Parliament House and their national museum called 'Te Papa', which means 'Our Place' we could have spent a week in there, it was so cool.
We then left Wellington on the 24th July and headed for Napier. We stopped at Mount Bruce where we saw our first Kiwi bird and then at the Tui brewery. We then got to Napier, its an Art Deco town. We walked to the Bluff Hill lookout which had an amazing view and walked about the town.
