So we arrived into Panama City bus terminal at 4am, after what was not our best bus journey!!! We had left at midday and the whole journey had been pretty stop start, and included about 2 1/2 hours crossing the border. It was a pretty strict boarder, with every bag getting searched, we were happy enough with it though as we didn't get stung for any more money!!!
We couldn't get into our hostel at 4am, so we waited it out in the bus terminal, killing a bit of time with a good old game of cards (watched closely by a local kid!!If only we had the Spanish to communicate with him!)!!! At 6am, with the sun rising, we headed to the hostel. Luckily they let us in, but unfortunately we couldn't get our room until midday! So we hung out in the communal areas with some people still up from the night before!!!
We managed to muster up some energy in the afternoon and headed to see the infamous Panama Canal. We caught a taxi out to the Miraflores lock, just in time to see some action!!! The Canal is as impressive as you think it is going to be, especially when you consider it is coming up to 100 years old. It is amazing what they achieved with so little technology. Some random information about the Canal is that it can make up to up $9m per day, 50million gallons are needed to fill a lock and they do not recycle the water and it takes less than 10minutes for the 27feet of water to be levelled.
See video and pictures for a little insight into the place.
We were pretty wrecked at this stage, and unfortunately that feeling followed over to the next day, where we had one of the laziest days so far! We got everything ready to head to the boat, did our washing and updated the blog!!!
