Banos was our next destination from Quito. It is a town in the south central part of the Ecuadorian Andies. The town its self is located on the edge of a large canyon with a large river flowing through it. Banos is a very tourist based town and its main tourist attractions are its adventure activities like ziplining, rafting, canyoning and bridge jumping.
We arrived late in the evening and all we had time to do was grab food. So we got "chifa" in other words Chinese, local people love Chinese and it is everywhere but luckily/surprisingly there was no 3 in 1.
The following day we went for a walk around the town, within 5 minutes we had pasted 6 or 7 tour operators and we had booked a trip to see all the waterfalls in the area that left 5 minutes later. We climbed on the back of a flat bed lorry with seats in it and with the "choons" pumping out of it and we were off.
We winded our way along the canyon edge and came to the first waterfall we tried to get the name of it but the tour was in Spanish!!!- I suppose that's what you get for a $5 tour. Running over the waterfall was a cable car so we all pilled in to get a better look at it even though it may not have been the safest looking contraption. After that we past a few more little water falls, most with cable cars running out to them as well, we decided against these ones as they look even "safer"???? Our next stop was a zipline but due to the fact we had done one in Costa Rica and seen the way the safety equipment should look like we decided against it.
Beside it was an old bridge where you could do bridge jumping basically your harnessed via a rope to the bridge and you jump off, free fall and swing. Everyone in our group decided against it surprise surprise.
Our final stop was a short hike to Cascade Mackay. It had been a while since we had felt the spray on our faces from a beautiful towering waterfall. " God life is tough!!!" So we trekked down to it and observed the power of it.
Then it was back to the town for another wander around we came across another bridge even higher which they also do bridge jumping off "MAD F*****S". You can see the bridge in our pictures but didn't catch anyone doing it.
We also came across some locals making Taffy a candy bar which they say you lose teeth on "well Shane is sitting here eating some and still has all of my teeth MMM CANDY"...just about!!! We also saw some local women in native dress including their "white Nikes" very funny!
