I left Cancun to catch a ferry to a neighbouring island to enjoy some Mexican sun, sea and sand. I was not disappointed. A white beach greeted me with turquoise sea and blue skys. In all honesty I did not do much here but enjoy the sun and relax. Bliss.
The island itself is tiny, only 8km long and therefore very intimate and it did not take long to explore or discover the good food. People were zooming around on golf carts that could be hired all over the island. It was a sight to see.
In the evening I headed to the beach for a cocktail as the sunset. As I sat on a swing chair I looked out over the sea. On the distant mainline, a dark cloud lingered. As I watched sheet and forked lightning started. It was framed by palm trees and near where I was, a pink on dark blue sky. It was an incredible sight and set the cocktail off perfectly
The night continued well with a some delicious shrimp and an entertaining tableau of a cat hiding under a chair with a dog perched just to the side watching. Both had each others attention and neither moved muscle nor hair for a full 5 minutes. It was literally a game of cat and dog. Finally, as a person walked close, the dog flicked its eyes and the cat seeing the chance was off. Very entertaining.
The next day I had promised myself another day lazying on the beach, but the weather had other plans. It poured and poured and poured. After eating lunch and realising there was no way it was going to improve, I headed back to Cancun with only one day of my two day beach plan fulfilled. Oh well.
