Hello all
.... sorry it took me a bit of time to update this journal, but i am finally managing to sit down to give u a bit of news... not much time thought as i am taking a bus for Ayuthaya in an hour. The best way to sumarise it so far would be with A BIG, MASSIVE SMILE. I am still in bangkok where i arrived last Friday afternoon absolutely shattered. Shock to the system first with the heat (35 degree or so) and the humidity that hit your body at the door of the plane. Still haven t managed to have a proper and consistent sleeping schedule... i just take it as it comes, which suits me...
Bangkok is unbelievable! City of contrast, beauties (and i am not just talking about the girls here...by the way christian i may not marry a girl from the mogolian steppes after all and i am sure you d understand me if you were here!!!) and things a bit less pretty. The polution, traffic, noise and activities in the street are just crazy and never stop but you get use to it after a wild. Thai people are just extremely nice and welcoming, and there is no other way than ending up deeply enjoying their companies and liking them!!! Buddims, spirituality and meditation are everywhere, which contrast with the crazy rythme of Bangkok. Smiling is probably the best way to communicate with those who don`t speak english (quite rare) and they just smile back at you!!! Quite basic I agree but Beautiful!
There seems to have no rule to the city building structure. You can find in the space of 400 yards an amazing temple from the 16th century, nearby by very very poor cahuts/houses which can barely stand up and could be easely found in the third world countries nearby an ultra modern sky high building. This is quite obvious when you travel on the river MAE NAM CHAO PHRAYA (the heart of the city by the way)
Highlights so far, as you ll see with the photos attached
- Wat Pho (temple)
- Wat Phra Kaew (temple) and the grand Palace (one of current king Rama 9 residence):
- Golden Mountain and Wat Saket (temple)
- The all river shore and flootting market
- Lupinee Muay Thai boxing stadium - spent yesterday evening from 6 to 10 pm at the national stadium of Boxe Thai watching championship WITH A RING SIDE TICKET!!! was literaly at 2 meters from the boxers (see photos)... quite expensive but worth every single pennies!!!!!!!!! Definitely the best thing so far. Shem, I had a thought for u...imagining the dirty place in Swindon where you train.....
- The red districts (and there are a few).. no photo on that as it would slightly be inappropriate .... and my mother is reading this journal....
I probably have missed a few things with above, but time is running out and my bus is not going to wait for me. Now heading north to Ayuthaya, previous Thailand capital, Unesco protected site with temples which have been burned by the Burmanees during their invasion in the 17th century.
Ciao everybodies
