In 1113 King Suryavarman II started construction of the greatest of all Khmer monuments, Angkor Wat, set within an extensive enclosure and dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. Construction took 35 years, and was not completed prior to King Suryavarman’s II death after which it became his tomb.
