Hello from San Francisco,
land of tall buildings, writers and arty types. We spent our first day exploring the city and visiting the premier bay attraction, the San Fancisco sea lions who have camped out on the West marina. Cute but rather smelly.
We also visited the 'Musee Mechanique' (Which must always be said in a French accent for full effect). This charming little place was filled with mechanically operated musical instruments and antique arcade machines (So stuff like Pacman and those large clowns you find at fairgrounds where you insert 50p and they laugh menacingly at you for the next ten minutes.)
We had our first experience of couch surfing out here when we stayed with a guy who deemed himself the king of Jungle Speed. Not to be outdone, I challenged him to a match. Unfortunately we had to play by the San Fransisco rules and this was my excuse for losing.
Inbetween our time in San Fransisco we did a four day camping trip to the Yosemite National Park with a group of 30 others from around the world. We did all the outdoorsy type stuff like hiking, bird watching, swimming in lakes and karaoke... Karaoke was admittedly the most fun part of the trip, especially when Dean did his rendition of MC Hammer's 'Can't touch this' with accompanying dance moves. At one point we had the whole tour group up on stage to sing 'We are the world' which was prrobaly the corniest thing I have ever done, but very entertaining to say the least.
Tonight we stay with our second couch-surfing hosts, then on Monday we are off on a two week tour to explore 'the best of the west' (Which sounds Bloody brilliant but I don't know what it involves yet).
Anyhoo, I shall blog again soon, Claire x
