Well, the count down to departure is nearing an end! Anne and I can hardly believe that we are leaving in 4 days! We are just tying up some loose ends and making sure that our packing list isn't missing anything important. When going on a 27 day international trip, there are a lot of logistics that need to be taken into consideration. Here are some examples: apply for an Australian travel visa, check health insurance, auto insurance, and life insurance coverage policies, find a rental car company that won't charge us a huge amount to drop a car off over 1500 miles from where we picked it up...not to mention the little differences between cultures that you need to learn. What number do we call in an emergency? 911? Nope. 000. What do we dial to call home? Wheres the US Consulate located? (Yes, I really researched that). The biggest difference is going to be driving on the left side of the road...by far. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit anxious for that. And it's not just cars on roads that stay left. It's your cart in the super market, it's walking down the side walk or at the beach...everything! It amazes me how ingrained our habit to "stay right" is.
Since all of this is in order, the last feat before we leave is packing. We each get one 50lb bag, one carry on, and one "personal item" (it's secretly another full carry on). One additional checked bag is $70 and if your bags are even 1lb overweight it's an additional $200! The reason I bring this up is because if you know Anne, you understand that she must have wardrobe for every possible scenario, including matching shoes!! I've watched her pack bags over 50lbs for a WEEKEND. It's going to be interesting to see how she handles the packing. If I message any of you asking you to wire me money, it's because ours was spent on baggage fees! I will have to keep you posted on the results!
