On friday, at 6pm Tim, Matt, Alan and I were waiting on a crowded Bangkok roundabout waiting for a coach which we had oragnised earlier in the day. After many warnings from guide books about hoax travel agents and scams, when it reached 6:45 we began to wonder if we had been had. One of the travel agents had earlier lead us to the road, advised us to stay there, and wait for a red double decked coach to arrive. A few minutes later he drove off on a scooter, still asking us to wait there and not move. Now it may have been the heat or the thick exhaust fumes, but I'm sure I saw a glint in his eye which suggested he had played this game before, with many other travellers, each of whom had waited paitiently for the mysterious red coach. Much to our amazement 7:15 arrived and so did the coach. Ten hours later we arrive in south Thailand and waited for a boat to take us to Koh Phangan - we manged to book accomdation on the north side of the island at the port.
In total our Journey from Bangkok to Koh Phangan took 17 hours. When we arrived at Laen Son we were shown to our beach hut and we knew the long journey and smog were worth it.
That night we sat round with other travellers in the restuarant / bar and then headed to Had Rin about 30 minutes away. That night we sampled the strange taxis and Infamous 'buckets'.
