Yo yo yo! Lucy is very excited today as she is going to Thailand tomorrow - Bangkok first stop! But enough about that - you will hear about Asia in due course...
Right, so...I last left you wanting to read more when I was in Byron Bay.
My first day in Byron was speant on a secluded beach all to myself :) Yes Mum I am sure you are very jealous right now...
I had a stroll around the shops and ended up buying a cheeky little dress from a shop called Cupcake. Later that night I bought some food, and whilst cooking myself a stirfry I got talking to a few scandinavian's and they invited me to join them for drinks after tea.
We played drinking games outside in the courtyard at the brand new, really nice hostel I was staying at (Nomads) for the best part of the night, then naturally we ended up in the cheesy club that is known and loved as Cheeky Monkeys.
Woke up the following day and spent most of the day chilling out and trying not to be sick....just lovely. That night was pretty much repeated from the previous.
The following day two english girls checked into my dorm room and we got on straight away. One of them was wrapped up in her holiday boyfriend but the other girl - Louise - was up for making the most out of the day ahead. She told me about a bead shop, yes a bead shop that her friend had been to where you can make your own beautiful braclets and jewllery for dirt cheap. We ended up spending a couple of hours in this store sitting on the floor making braclets for ourselves and our friends (Yes girls I didn't forget you : )
Later on we wanted to do the trek up the hill to Byron Bay Lighthouse to watch the sunset which has 360 views.
I had an idea to take up a picnic, so we went and got a very healthy dinner of homous, pitta bread, crisps, Tim Tams, Ham and garlic cheese....and just a drop of wine ;)
We set off up the hill an hour before sunset and saw some lovely views along the way, through the forest along the coast. It was actually quite a steep trek and took us about an hour to get there. We passed this weird slope which had a poxy little gate infront of it saying 'Pilots only beyond this point' ... now being a Saunders, to me this meant 'Pilots only beyond this point - unless your name is Lucy Saunders'.....so I climbed over and had a pic taken (check Facebook)...muchos fun.
We reached the lighthouse just in time for sunset and set up our picnic and watched it go down, after about an hour we set off back down the hill through the forest with our crappy little torch....probably a little bit stupid as we could have been killed by a snake or something....but we werent :)
We got back, got ready and went out on the town with a new crowd of people to Cocomangas. Had a great night, finishing with a kebab in hand....
I siad goodbye to everyone the following day and headed off on the bus to Sydney!
Ohhhh Sydney - my little home, I love it here. I have been staying in Nomads (aka Westend backpackers.) Everyone including the staff are really friendly and I have had no trouble finding something to do here.
I arrived in Sydney late Friday night and went straight to bed after a long bus journey. The following morning I went on a long coastal walk past Coogee beach to Bondi!
Met loads of people that day, including a lovely Canadian girl called Lana. Lana and I had some lunch at Bondi together and joined the others that night for a night out at 'The Gaff.'
Very funny evening, lots of fun. The following day was my day for laundry, food shopping and all those boring weekly tasks. I had a little stroll around the city and being Easter Sunday bought myself an easter egg....yummy!
Today I went to the Blue Mountains just outside of Sydney. It was really beautiful, very vast and green is the only way I can describe it.
We got picked up at 7am outside of the hostel and after having breakfast in a little town, we arrived at the starting point of The B.M. We made a 2 hour trek up and down slopes and steps through the forests, passing waterfalls and other pretty things until stopping for lunch at 12:30 by which point we were all exhausted. After lunch of pie and salad, we headed down very, very steep rocky steps for an hour and a half to get to the platform on which we would take a vertical train back to the top. This particular railway is THE steepest railway in the world - quite facinating stuff and I got to go on it :)
We got back onto the mini bus and drove to the national park where we saw a few kangaroos. I've seen them before but we were treated by the mother letting us have a peep of her Joey in her pouch which was really lovely (again - check photos on Facebook.)
We got back after 6pm and I am sooo knackered from all the walking we did, but I'm really glad I di itd, as I think I needed to shift some weight due to the excessive amount of alchohol I have been consuming ;)
So, tomorrow I am off to South East Asia. I have had a wicked time in Aus, but really looking forward to getting over to Thailand.
First stop will be Bangkok for a couple of nights, and then i'm off to Chiang Mai where I will be staying in an Elephant conservation park volunteering with Ellies for a week :)
Am off to bed now - will update you at some point in Asia.
Peace out y'all!
Lots of love, Luc xxxx
