Burning Lake
Burning Lake is one of the most sacred places in Bhutan. The story goes that in the late 15th century Pema Lingpa found a treasure - a sacred text at the bottom of the lake. He returned from the water with the text and the still burning butter lamp in his hand – hence the name, Burning Lake. The water is holy – people throw money into it as a wish, or stare into the water to find their “calling”. It is sight of pure serenity.
