Blog 33 - Viwa Island Resort
Viwa is beautiful.. The perfect place to go to when you're on a honeymoon.. I wasn't on one obviously, but I had a great time. Michelle, Glen's sister made me feel at home and she her boyfriend Hemish and all the other staff members are beautiful people.
It was quite a heavy boat trip from Bounty Island to Viwa. The ocean was rough and thus the waves quite big. Luckily I've got sea legs! My bure was amazing… A king size bed with a very comfy mattress, a beautiful bathroom, a really nice deck, overlooking the beach and ocean, and a kettle, so I made myself some tea, while laughing out loud.. how did I manage to end up here?!
The main bure was really nice. Comfy couches on one side of the bar and the restaurant on the other side. The wireless internet worked well, so I did spend way to much time on it.. It's a curse and a blessing at the same time…
The days were long and lazy; sometimes slightly active… Played hypes of ping pong, volleyball, did some yoga, went for a surf with Glen (who arrived on Monday) and Hemish, checked the surf twice (too much wind… tide to low :-( ), enjoyed the beautiful food, did the warrior track to one of the villages, went for a really cool dive with Michelle, Hemish and Justin (arrived Tuesday to fix the generator), went for a surf kayak with Charlie (one of the staff members) and last but not least.. I celebrated my birthday…
My birthday was actually one on the lazy days… No worries about baking cakes or groceries shopping, just relaxing and accepting the fact that I'm a year older than last year (which is hard enough) or actually just a day older than yesterday. I wanted to bake a cake, but they said I wasn't allowed… Actually they just wanted to surprise me and in the evening, at dessert, the whole crew came out singing and carrying this amázing chocolate cake!! So sweet! And really good! For the rest they tried to get me drunk, but after a couple of Margarita's and glasses of champagne I felt good and I really did not want to go there…
The next day Igot my real Bday present: the waves were finally good, so Glen, Hemish and I went for a surf at 'sergeants'. Hemish named the spot while we were there: it was quite shallow and I was the first girl ever to surf there (as far as anybody knows)… The waves were pretty nice, but in the end there was a wave coming in: it was like a monster wave ( 1 out of 350.000 waves is 4 times bigger than average) and that was pretty terrifying, cause I couldn't duck dive it: it broke just in front of me… Somehow I managed not to get myself thrown on the reef.. luckily.. and we decided to get out before there were more monster coming through…
On Thursday we went to check out a village on the other side of the island. On our way over there we picked some oranges from the trees and had some coconut's. The children in the village are going to school in the local church, since there's no school building. They sang us some songs, so cute! (check my youtube surfsaske) and the local women made us some lemon tea and some cakes. It's bizarre to see that these people live in a world without all the stress and high tech stuff we have…
In the afternoon Hemish, Justin, Michelle and I went for a dive, which was pretty awesome. There was a very steep wall of reef and I bet that anyone being afraid of heights would have been scared… I got scared when I saw a bull shark swimming down below… well not really scared, it was far below, but still…
And then there was the credit card story… The Postbank is taken over by the ING and so my ATM card stopped working today… but I didn't know that beforehand… I did find out that my credit card stopped working, so I called the ING and they did not have good news for me… I needed to get a new ATM and a new credit card.. in the Netherlands… see my problem?? I had 50 USD left and some Fijian dollars as well, but that was all…
Thanks to a lot of effort of my lovely mum, the ING reactivated my credit card…. (story continues in my next blog)
Thursday night was my last night and there was a crab race… All the crabs were numbered and you could 'buy' one if you thought he (or she) would be the fastest.. Was really funny…
Obviously I didn't win anything.. my crab finished second last..
I left Viwa on Friday afternoon and I really had an amazing time… so if you want to go on a really romantic holiday… check www.viwaislandresort.com ….
