And we're off! Day one of my family's road trip to (and most likely from) Texas! My parents and I were up at what is often referred to as the ass crack of dawn to hit the road. We're meeting my brother and his family in bustling Salem, SD within the hour. Joe and his wife and daughter are riding their motorbikes, so they will be working a lot harder than me. Not that this blogging business isn't hard. I mean, I'm typing all of this with my thumbs fer cryin' out loud. What a hardship.
Side note: Dad is singing Johnny Cash. Road trip!
As this journey (that's for you, Lara) has grown nearer, I have become increasingly more excited. Perhaps a more seasoned traveller would be less worked up about a road trip that consists of basically driving in a straight line for two days, but not me! I am, in fact, totally stoked.
The reason for the trip is a family reunion that is being thrown by my cousin in Texas. He and his wife have generously invited the whole clan to descend upon them for the weekend. He has promised BBQ and cold drinks, which is all anyone really needs for a good time. Although I am aware that no one with hair as thick as mine belongs in the Texas heat, I'm hopeful that the aforementioned good time will distract myself (and others) from the sweaty mess I'm sure to become.
For now, there's just a lot of driving and riding to be done, but the AM country station is playing, the magazines are waiting to be read, and I've got my magical phone to entertain me if neither of those things do the trick.
