Sara's Journey
Greetings!
After a three hour flight from Cairns we finally arrived in the Famous city of Sydney! It was cold and wet when disembarked the plane which was a shock as our last day in Cairns was lovely weather!
Our friend Riley (who lives in Sydney) picked us up from the airport and drove us back to his house which is about a 30 minute drive from Sydney city centre. He lives in a small seaside town called Çurl Curl'. His apartment is literally on the beach and has amazing views. Its a shame the weather was so awful while we were there!
The first day we literally did nothing im afraid to say as it rained all day long! We stayed in Rileys flat and watched DVD's all day! How lazy! Oh, tell a lie, we did venture into the local town and brought some food for dinner which we cooked for Riley and his flatmate Ally (also a friend from home).
The following day we decided we would brave the weather and take a trip into Sydney as we couldnt leave the place without seeing the famous Bridge and Opera House! It was actually quite nice weather in the morning, sunny but cold! We caught the ferry from Manly to Sydney harbour which was a very scenic trip, the views across Sydney harbour were amazing.
Once we docked at the harbour we went photo crazy and toke pictures galore of the bridge and the opera house. We were able to walk right up the opera house and have a good look around, when you get up close, the architecture is spectacular. It is completely tiled which is amazing considering the curves that had to be created and with a straight edged tile i can imagine that it was quite difficult!
We then had a coffee at a cafe that overlooked the harbour before departing to our next stop on the ferry, Double Bay. This place was so swanky! The shops were all designer and the cars that were whizzing around the place wouldnt look out of place in a James Bond movie! Not the kind of place for a backpackers budget! We managed to find a lovely little cafe that was relatively well priced for the area! While we were having our lunch, the heavens opened up and it poured down! This was a little inconvenient as we had to catch the next ferry home and neither us had an umbrella and i didnt even have a coat! I canb safley say i got drenched! We managed to get some good photos of the oprea house as the sun set though!
That evening we went clubbing in Sydneys notorious 'Kings Cross'! And yes, it was very similar to our lovely 'Kings Cross'! The first club we visited was rather posh but as the evening went on they got a little worse for wear to say the least! We arrived home at 7am the next morning so as you can imagine, we did nothing again that day!
We were due to fly to New Zealand the following day however we incurred a little glitch! We missed our flight and had to catch a flight the following day so after Riley had got up at 6am and driven us to the airport, we were a little worried at phoning him telling him that we needed picking up again! Luckily, he didnt seem to mind and saw the funny side?!!!
Well, i will next update you when i have some stories to tell from the land best known for its tasty Lamb, mmmm!
Love Sara
