Cairns! Queensland!
Having arrived, been shown my room and had a wonder, I decided - being a little tired to have a nap at about midday - setting my alarm for an hour later... ...woke up six hours later, craving food. My word I must have been jetlagged.
Had a week or sorting visa's, sim cards etc and exploring. Spent two days on a tour - checking out Mossman Gorge, Daintree Forest and River and finally Cape Tribulation. Absolutely beautiful, each of them. The tour guide was great - trying his best to get a lively response from the tiredsome backpackers in his tour bus, with little avail. Note, it was at least 8am in the morning and for a day in Cairns, it was overcast and drizzling with rain. Not a great mood setter.
Arrived at Daintree with our tour guide warning us of what to look out for - Wait a Whiles - which I loved! The are vines from the trees that, as you brush past hook into your clothing and skin, as you continue they pull and rip your clothing/skin. To remove yourself you must - wait-a-while!! Step back and unhook. Simple but effective! They used to be used to catch crocodiles - as they would hook in the mouths and the croc would pull against it!
Once I have uploaded my photos, I'll add some more detail - always seen Figs Trees that if I recall correctly, suffocate over trees. The Fig plants/trees grow downwards - as birds poop the seeds out in their nests!
