(T) Our family tour guides, Pete and Carol, took us on an adventure into Wales. Through the streets of the Wirral and onto the motorway towards North Wales, this was to be a day to remember experiencing a part of the world we hadn't even planned on visiting!
We made our way through Colwyn Bay stopping to see the smallest church you could imagine, room for about 6 to sit down, before coming to the seaside town of Llandudno which is a thriving summer getaway. It was then up and over the Great Orme which gave some breathtaking views of the bay below it; the peak is accessible by car, foot, tramcar or cable car.
Down the other side in the west shore of Llandudno is a memorial at the stretch of coast where Lewis Carrol was inspired to write the classic - Alice In Wonderland. It was then onto to see some castles!
Conwy Castle was up first and after a lunch of tea and scones we climbed some stairs and walked around the castle town walls which still encircle the centre of Conwy today, a good 700-800 years after being built.
Castle two was in Caernarfon (where the Prince of Wales had his investiture), the Duke of Cambridge (William) is stationed for his rescue chopper duties just nearby. A pub stop at the Black Boy Inn was required to quench our thirsts before pushing on.
The return leg took us through the Snowdonia national park, stunning mountain villages and incredible scenery surrounded us till the sun went down. Rock climbers and trail walkers were plentiful along the road side as they finished up their day or mountain activities.
We pulled in for a late dinner and a beer in the town that my great grandfather hails from, it's almost certain that he would have drunk at this pub in his day.
With Sarah sleeping soundly after a long day with the camera we made our final push back into Birkenhead, incredibly grateful for the day we'd just had. We had seen and learnt so much from Pete & Carol, so much more than we ever expected, their knowledge of this part of the UK is so extensive that we must make a return trip. THANK YOU!!
