I had almost no sleep last night and woke up all blurry eyed this morning and gave Stephen a lift to work as he missed his bus before getting ready to go to Litchfield national park for the day. I was so tired I just dreaded the journey down there by car it was at least an hour and a half drive to get there. It turned out alright though, there were 4 of us together. Claudia, Sergei, Frederika and myself.
We got there quite early in the day and went to the Magnetic termite mounds. They're pretty big but I just couldn't see how you could tell which direction they are actually facing in, I mean I am not some sort of random biologist or anything so I guess there is some technical way of finding out but b***** knows what that is! We then went to the first section of the waterholes. The Bluey rock holes. Lots of swimming involved! It was a little bit cold but once you were in there then it was alright. I will admit taking quite a long time to jump off of the rocks into the water but once I got going there was no stopping me. The only time I stopped was when I hurt my foot on the bottom of the rock pool where I must have jumped slightly the wrong side of the group of rocks! We were in there for about 4 hours before we figured that we should probably get going and see some other things in the park.
We then went to Florence falls which has 135 stairs to get down to it. It was beautiful but think we were too tired to swim after the rock holes. I did sit and watch a couple people dive off of the side of the waterfall and it really didn't look deep enough for them to be doing that! We chilled out for a while before going to some of the scenic view points such as Tomer Falls and Wangi falls. Wangi is a really nice place for swimming but it's closed off for croc season. So we went walking through the rainforest and came across some massive spiders! All you could hear was me and Frederika screaming every now and again when we walked into a web! We climbed to the view point and for the first time since Asia I managed to get leeched! Not impressed it was on there for so long it turned my sock red!
The clouds were coming in rather fast and we decided it was about time to split and return to Darwin. Easier said than done the drive back seemed to take forever. I was greeted by Beckie (very rowdy Scottish lass) taking the mick about how hanging I must have been on the route to Litchfield this morning although it did make me feel better to know that Stephen needed about 10 red bulls to get through today hahahaha.
Very contemplative picture of me there lol.
