It was a very subdued group that came down to breakfast this morning. A lot of hangovers and very little sleep.
It was a short trip to the Delphi archeological site. Again we started with the museum and luckily the weather held for the trip to the site. It was quite a long haul up to the actual site but the views alone made it more than worth it. I didn't get time to get all the way to the top, just most of the way. Some of the worst hangovers didn't go up at all. I got some awesome pictures, so their loss.
There is a major strike on in Athens so there is no public transportation in the city. Luckily no one has any flights today so it's not a huge deal for us.
On the way to lunch we passed through a town, even higher on the mountain. The streets were really narrow and the driver must have had a really tough time getting the bus through the streets. The views were spectacular.
Lunch was fantastic again. I had a spaghetti dish but I picked things off everyone else's plates too. It started raining again while we were eating. The clouds came down and drifted over the mountains. It was really beautiful.
Back on the bus and we filled out the evaluation forms for our tour manager Paola. Then she put 'Mamma Mia' on for the drive back to Athens. We'll all be splitting up when we arrive with most of them going on to do either the three or seven day cruises around the islands.
We were lucky to get such a short walk from where the bus dropped us off to the hotel. There were riot police all around Syntagma Square and loads of people in the Square itself.
Back at the hotel there was a bit of a crush as everyone was waiting for rooms. We were last as we had that voucher for our room. Because we were not a part of Contiki our room was on the sixth floor, away from the others and since there wasn't enough room in the elevator for both out luggage and us, I took the stairs. Never again.
We have a bit of time before meeting the others for dinner so Bec and I decided to wander the Plaka. I think we were very lucky not to get lost but we found some really great shops. I picked up a few souvenirs I really didn't need but couldn't pass up.
I have fallen in love with this whole area. The rest of Athens was like any other city from what I saw but the Plaka is fantastic. I need to come back and spend more time here.
For dinner there wasn't anything organized but the hotel has a bunch of restaurants up and down the street so me, Bec and Michael had Indian. Again, even when it wasn't Greece food, it was still fantastic. I was so stuffed we had to go for a walk after dinner to walk it off. We talked Michael into getting a souvenirs for his sister, cause you can't go to Greece and not get something for family.
At the hotel we said goodbye to Michael for the last time. Bec had to use the computer so we lounged around in the lobby waiting for it to be free. Its so nice here. I want to stay longer. How could Italy top this?
