Last day in the north island today... Left this morning and drove round the grand lake in taupo and up onto the desert pass 1000ft above sea level...as we drive along we passed mount doom from lord of the rings which means nothing to me but was really stunning and looked so strange being not much higher than us (who were in the sunshine) and being covered in snow, as if it had been moved from somewhere else and dropped on our path. Ok so we bailed on our last night in australia being neighbours night because it was really random members of the cast going and not the infamous karl kennedy etc that we had been promised, so we went to the argyle which is 1 of our favourite bars. O dear me. Last day in Byron was cloudy so gave the lighthouse walk a miss, wandered around, sent some things home and planned to go out to cheeky monkeys with Madeline, a really nice german girl who was in my room. Ready and on the goon when all of byron and ballina had a powercut, plunging us all into complete goon-filled darkness and silence..finsihed our big night out with a cuppa and a giggle in the hostel then off to bed.
