How are you doing?! Are you busy training, working, going to school etc.?? What have you been up to the last couple of weeks? Hoe gingen de triathlons in Nederland/Duitsland???
I am back in Toronto...after 21 days of road-tripping with only occasional internet access..as we spent 18 of the 21 nights on campsites in our tent!!! After driving 6300+ kilometers in a car it is soooo nice to finally be walking and just staying in one place for a while!! I am already looking forward to my bed tonight;)...But this sounds like we didn't have any fun on our trip....on the contrary....
I can't put my trip into words!! It was an unforgettable experience to travel with the two other girls and our tent in our little PT-Cruiser and just take one day at a time and decide how long to stay when we arrived in places!! We met and got to know amazing people (and were allowed to sleep in some real beds and have great dinners at the Euser's places in Ottawa and Toronto!! Thanks again!!! :)
We started out in Kingston, Ontario (a little old city that is on the lake) where we camped right on a river, went on a 1000-islands cruise and went swimming to wake up in the morning;)...Our vacation couldn't have started out with nicer weather or a nicer place to swim.....(i think most of you know how much i love water;)...
After having camped our first night we spent the next night in a Bed & Breakfast in Montréal, where we walked around a bit and did what girls do;)...we went shopping;)...But after eating and snacking too much I decided to pay the Olympic swimming pool in Montréal a short 1.5 hour visit the next morning!! I can only say that it was incredible to swim there and see that swimming pools in 1976 were actually quite modern...(tenmindste een heel stukje beter dan het Corpus-huys...;) But I prefer to swim with people whose language I can understand...and not next to 80 year old French-guys..;)..Waar zijn de Tritanen als je ze nodig hebt;)????
Tired after training i slept on our 2 hour trip to Québec...which turned out to be our favorite (European) city in Canada...You really feel as if you are in some French city..in southern France!! <br\>After 2 nights there we drove along the Saint
Lawrence River (which is like 80km across...and looks like an Ocean)
along the Gaspésie peninsula to Percé...where we stayed on a tiny,
totally clean campsite with 3 other tents..right on a cliff with a
great view of the "Roche de Percé"!! The next morning we went
Whale-watching and saw about 7 blue whales!!!:) It was fascinating!!
They swim into the river since they think it is an ocean.. Mischien een
leuke uitdaging voor de een of andere Tritaan..er is een open-water
zwem-crossing van de Saint-Lawrence..maar het duurt wel effe 3 dagen of
zo;)...
<br\><br\>After having seen rough cliffs and a river we went on to
Prince Edward Island which looks like Northern Holland with red cliffs
and red soil...I found it quite nice, calm and beautiful..but the other
girls didn't like it tooo much...
as they found it too much like home<br\><br\><br\>Having more or less
relaxed for 2 days we took a ferry to Nova Scotia..(I drove our car
right into the ship's huge mouth...;)....The beauty of Cape Breton
Island can't really be expressed in words..(take a look on my blog for
the pictures..(i'll get around to adding them 2day I hope;) We stayed
in Cape Breton Natl. Park for 2 days..on which we spent one day hiking
a 16km trail along the coast-line ( I was more exhausted and physically
dead than after every triathlon i have ever done;) after which we took
a quick dip in the Atlantic ocean!!! It was an awesome stay in the
Natl. Park which is in the highlands..but at the ocean!!! If you ever
get a chance to go...do it!! <br\><br\>I am loosing track of the places we went to.....After Cape
Breton we spent a night in a Christian University Residence in
Halifax.. in some great rooms..and slept soundly for the first time in
like 10 days or so;)...We spent an evening in Halifax..but we felt out
of place in a city (even if Halifax is the size of Groningen;)..
as we were sooo used to camping in the nature!! <br\><br\>After tanking
up on sleep we drove to Fundy Natl. Park which is known for its
amazingly high tides (the water actually moves back 12-16 meters into
the bay at low tide)!! We spent some time hiking, kayaking and taking a
night walk...
",1] ); //-->
After 2 nights there we drove along the Saint Lawrence River (which is like 80km across...and looks like an Ocean) along the Gaspésie peninsula to Percé...where we stayed on a tiny, totally clean campsite with 3 other tents..right on a cliff with a great view of the "Roche de Percé"!! I am loosing track of the places we went to.....After Cape Breton we spent a night in a Christian University Residence in Halifax.. in some great rooms..and slept soundly for the first time in like 10 days or so;)...We spent an evening in Halifax..but we felt out of place in a city (even if Halifax is the size of Groningen;).. as we were sooo used to camping in the nature!!
After tanking up on sleep we drove to Fundy Natl. Park which is known for its amazingly high tides (the water actually moves back 12-16 meters into the bay at low tide)!! We spent some time hiking, kayaking and taking a night walk... <br\>To relax before heading into the last nature park we stopped
of at Tony's place in Ottawa where we were treated to a great dinner,
beds, a great breakfast and a tour of the city!! It was great but far
too short to really see much of the Nation's capital!! <br\><br\>After this we headed to our last location...Algonquin
provincial park for 3 nights!!! In Algonquin we camped right by a
lake again:)!! It was so beautiful..and i finally dared to actually go
swimming...because the water was warmer than the air..We were all
scared of camping here as the weather forecast was not telling us any
positive things..but rather announcing rain for the next 2 days (which
would be the days we were in the park:(...
<br\>But we were kinda lucky it only rained one complete day;)...On the
first day in Algonquin we had 24 degrees and walked a wildlife trail of
11km (Mizzy Lake trail if anyone ever goes there;) on which we saw 4
moose, 3 beaver in their ponds etc, loons, squirrels, chipmunks etc...
and luckily no bears !!! <br\>That evening it started raining and it pretty much rained on till
the morning 2 nights later:(!! We rented a canoe that rainy morning and
headed out to paddle and of course got soaking wet..after which we
turned around and paddled as fast as we could;) (which wasn't too
fast)!! We had lunch and decided to go and drink a coffee to warm up
again. When we returned it was halfway nice weather so the girls
decided to head out to paddle again..I had pulled a muscle or done
something to my back so i decided to leave the paddling and jump into
the water!! I finally swam in a lake again...and had enough people
watching me as if i were doing something completely crazy;)...it was
hilarious to watch their faces when i got out of the water!!! As i
hadn't really done much training i decided to try to loosen up my sore
muscles with a little run as well...i ran 50 minutes without ever
leaving the campground and didn't go anywhere twice!!!:) I guess the
stereotype of "supersize" is sorta valid in Canada as well;)...
",1] ); //-->
