Hi everyone!!!!!
Well, im finally in Kenya! Its really lovely here.
We got here after a long and pretty much sleepless flight, there were four of us being picked up from the airport by someone from Fadhili, and we were drived 30minuets from the airport to our host family for the night in Ngong. I couldnt help but just stare out the window on the way, the place is so interesting! The host family were lovely and after a little nap the son of or host Izzo took us to the supermarket a 30 min ride by Matatu to get some water and a sim card. It was really nice to get out and about. Matatu rides are crazy! think bad taxi drivers in Newcastle, and then picture the door being open at random to let other people in, lots of banging on the side, and too many people squished in lol.
Orientation was the next day, where we got to meet all the other volunteers and find out where we were placed. It was a nice day, meeting all the staff and getting to know some of the volunteers. We moved to our new homestay. Im now staying with a lovely lady named Grace, her husband, 4 children and another volunteer. I cant remember what area it is but i will find out again and let you know. The food is lovely, mainly pulses beans and chapatti!! which is yummy!!
Today a few of us volunteers who are going to be working in kibera were shown to our placements! Kibera is the second biggest slum in the world and is quite an experience! the school where i will be at first is a high school and i will hopefully be helping with a few little sessions with the girls there. aswel as a little teaching which im scared about!
Overall, im having a lovely time. Its hard to ajust but im sure its going to be just great! Iv not taken any pictures yet but i will try to remember tomorrow.
My love to you all! xxxx
