Day 2 and we were up and ready early so as to not miss out on our free breakfast. Mini sausages, beans, bacon, toast and cereal all on offer.
We decided to walk today to better acquaint ourselves with the city. We walked towards the city centre, on the way vet bought a coffee at star bucks while I used their bathroom. When I pressed the flush level only a trifle of water came out so I figured the red cord hanging above the toilet must be the working flush, so I pulled it and set off the emergency alarm throughout the entire store!
Back on the path we wondered through Russell Square and had our first encounter with Squirrels!! They are much smaller than I imagined.
On the other side if the park is the British museum. It's an old building with a modern interior. Did you know that native American Indians use porcupine needles before the europeans introduced them to wooden beads?
In the back of the foyer stood an enormous totem pole and I heard myself echo my mothers words (oh no!) ' Imagine the tools they would have had to create to carve these intricate patterns and make it so smooth, imagine how long it would have taken. How would they have made it stand up right?' Did you know the closest equivalent to the totem pole in european culture is the coat of arms?
Off to Oxford street and leicster square where we shopped, window shopping of course we couldnt really afford much down this street ( except the waffles!).
As we approached China town we decided to have lunch there.Italian! That's what we had for lunch in china town lol.
After we gambled £6 away in a gaming shop, with tired and sore feet we caught the tube to Camden after Mandy insisted we se the Camden markets.
They were AMAZING, full streets of stalls with the widest variety of treasures. From clothing to tea leaves, jewelry to technology and there was guy a guy with a bearded dragon!
We took a short walk back to the hostel before retiring for the day.
2am we were wide awake again. We took our maps and pamphlets downstairs for a cup of tea, catch up with Brett, day planning and some trashy uk tv
