Left early from St Malo as we had another 3.5 hour journey ahead of us and had to have the car returned in Versailles by 12.30 at the latest. We had to go through another toll today making sure we went through the right gate. We are pro's at this now. When we had to finally go through the payment bridge it was another €27, in fact yesterday we didn't go through the truck lane it is the actual toll price. And we think $5 is bad. Arrived Versailles just on time to return the car. Another stitch up from Europcar, the drop off point was not at the train station but a 10-15 min walk up hill with back packs. As you can gather not happy with Europcar. When we went to purchase our tickets for the train we had Only enough change for one ticket, sorry Brett your walking. We tried to purchase the other ticket with our VISA card but this wasn't accepted for some reason and the machines wouldn't accept notes. The train attendant advised that the only way to get change was right over the other side which would've taken another 15 minutes. Fortunately he was a nice man and gave us change for €10 to get our extra ticket. Who said the French weren't nice? Caught the train to Paris Montparnasse where we had to connect to the Metro to get to Paris Gare Du Nord. Required a lot more walking and more stairs but we got there and made it to our hotel but not without Brett falling on a man on the metro with his backpack. Hehe the man was not impressed. We made it to the hotel where I stayed with Alex a couple of years ago but unfortunately the place had been let go a bit and isn't as nice. As it was a reasonable day we decided to do the Eiffel Tower, Champs Élysées, Arc de Triomphe and Galleries Lafayette. It was a long day finishing with a climb up the stairs of the Eiffel Tower, 669 steps to be precise and that's only to the second level. Got the bus back to the hotel around 10 stopping at Quick Burgers (French version of Maccas) for dinner.
