Over the last 6 days we hired another Jucy Camper and went along the Great Ocean road and then onto the Grampians, It was nice to get out of the city for a week and see some lovley scenery.
On the 1st day we drove from Melbourne to the start of the Great Ocean Road in Torquay but 1st of all went to the supermarket to stock up on a weeks supply's of food and drink!...Over the last 4 half months I think we've become really good chefs well I have any way! :) Even though we are traveling when we have had to budget we certainly haven't gone hungry at any point!
I've loved driving these roads as they've taken you through different scenerys and conditions. One minute you could be 50meters up driving along the sea watching the waves crash against the cliffs below you and other times you could be driving through lovley green fields full with cattle!
The Famous part of the Great Ocean Road are the 12 Apostles which are parts of the cliff that have broken away from the mainland and are standing freely amongst the sea. We arrived here late one evening as the sun was setting with clear blue skys which was a pretty amazing site.
On the following day we started off by going to a local cheese factory where we a tasted a few different types and bought some for lunch that day! Sarah's love for cheese is defiantly starting to rub off on me!.. We then drove for a couple of hours to a small town called Tower hill where we walked around an old volcano joined by wild Kangaroos and Emu's which was is not something you see everyday!
We had another few hours drive to get to our campsite in the Grampians, driving at night through these roads was pretty dodgey as there are a lot of Dead kangaroos on the side and live ones standing along the edge waiting to bounce across! Luckily we made it there and the camper in one piece dodging a suprisingly fast Koala! :)
The following day we spend the afternoon on a tour of Seppelts Winery which was really cool as they took us through the drives where they stored the wine and told us about the history of the company, but the part we were looking forward to the most was the wine tasting and the cheese platter that we had waiting for us! :) As I was driving I tasted a few but then was passing Sarah my glasses which were very generous samples/half glasses which made her lets say quite drunk.
On our last day we went on a 3hour hike to a view point called the Pinnacle which looked out across the Grampians which was really nice but was pretty hard work getting there.
Overall we've had a nice relaxing week seeing amazing scenery and I've found a new love for cheese and wine.
The day that we got back to Melbourne was our 2 year anniversary so as true backpackers we booked ourselves into a nice hotel and went to the crown complex to have dinner at Nobu. The meal was lovley and made a change from stayin in hostels all fighting to use a stove! It was defiantly what we both needed!
Happy anniversary! :)
