Catching the 7am train yesterday morning was tough, but it was nice to get to Granada late in the morning, and spend a more relaxed day there. After checking into our hotel, the group went to one of the more prominent lookouts (carmen) across from la Alhambra to sketch. While we were there sketching, our Spain profs Lynn and Damien held exit interviews, talking to each of us about our experiences on the study trip so far.
Today we woke up and hiked the steep hill just outside of Granada to the front gates of la Alhambra, in order to meet our guide for our tour of the buildings and grounds of the last Moorish stronghold in Spain. An amazingly extensive fortress, the tour of Alhambra took half of the day. While the famous lion statues in the court of lions were being renovated, causing us to miss seeing the complete court, I was still very impressed by the delicate details and sheer amount of workmanship that went into creating the fortress, and still goes into it, in order to maintain it.
As this was our last day for the Spain leg of the trip, we had a group dinner, and spent the meal in laughter as each of us shared a funny or good story from the trip.
