Happy Cinco De Mayo. Tonight we are in the southern suburbs of Nashville. We drove 184 miles, spent several hours with "Uncle Jack Daniels" at his distillery in Lynchburg, TN. The whole world's supply of Jack Daniels comes from this complex. As we drove in toward Nashville, the traffic got heavier and heavier - - OH! Friday Night - Go figure. So we got a room at a Best Western with "El Arroyo" Mexican restaurant within walking distance; guess where we are going for our fiesta. Duane & Jan

Today we drove a whopping 41 miles. We first went up the inclined railway with a slope of 72.7 deg. at the top of Lookout Mountain. Then we went to see Ruby Falls, a 145 ft. underground waterfall inside Lookout Mountain. You walk 20 min. in an underground cavern untill you get to the falls; awesome. Then we went to see The Chattanooga Choo Choo. Although merely imortalized in the song, there is a lodging/entertainment complex near downtown dedicated to the Choo Choo. It's part of the Holiday Inn and guests can stay in the sleeping cars. We mainly went to see the model railroad museum there, the largest model railroad setup I have ever seen. They said it took an estimated 50,000 man-hours to build. So tonight (after supper at Smokey Bones Barbeque and Grill) we're back at our Comfort Suites and will go look for Uncle Jack tomorrow in Lynchburg, TN. Later:

Hi - I'm back again. Today (Wednesday, May 3) we drove 327 miles and spent several hours at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. That was a very enlightening experience, showing the complete history of man's trips to space and the moon. We left Huntsville about 3:30 pm which was a little early to retire so we drove toward Chattanooga, as it turns out we couldn't find a decent hotel until we got to Chatanooga, but now we're here and there is lots to see, might have to stay here another night.

Hi Again - - It looks to me like Lisa (big sis) is trying to outdo Mary in posts to this board. Doesn't she know I have surpassed both of them??? - - Today, May 02; we only drove 196 miles, you can't get far when you let your wife visit Graceland. Did you know that Elvis and his mom/dad and grandma are buried there? We are in the eastern suburbs of Memphis and hope to get to Huntsville tomorrow. Later - Duane

Today was Monday, May 1st. We drove only 246 miles. We spent several hours in St. Louis; went to the top of the Gateway Arch (630 ft.) and visited the museum of westward expansion, etc. Tonight we are in the town of Sikeston, MO. We had supper at Lambert's Cafe; home of the "throwed roll". It was quite an experience watching people catch those rolls. Tomorrow we head for Memphis to look for Elvis at Graceland.

Hi, Sara! Just looking at the pictures of the Whitsundays made me homesick, or would it be vacation-sick, for Australia. The water looked so incredibly beautiful. I could almost hear the palm trees swaying in the breezes.
I can only imagine how difficult it will be for you to leave "paradise".
Was the water cool enough that you needed a wetsuit? Surfing sounded fun. Not too sure about the part about being knocked out for 5 minutes...I would want to skip that part.
Gene and I are getting back into the routine, whatever that is. I have been working on a project that I thought would only take 2-3 days, but so far, I have put in 5 full days but hope to finish tomorrow.
All this rain and gloomy and chilly weather we're having sure makes down under sound mighty nice. Keep enjoying it for us. We will live vicariously through you. (Not the knocked out part and the bruises, just the fun parts.)
Thanks for letting us spend time with you. We sure enjoyed it.
Love,
Gene and Sue

Hi all. - - OOPPSS another less than complete post. Anyway, we only drove 137 miles today. And we're staying overnight in Louisana. Yes, when we got to Hannibal, MO. We spent many hours visiting all the Mark Twain/Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn stuff. Then we drove down the Great River Road to Louisiana, MO. We are in the "Riverside Motel" with a view of the great Mississippi, Illinois across the river and lots of eagles soaring overhead. Tomorrow we head for St. Louis and the Great Arch, etc.
Check later, we'll tell you more.

Hi Sara: I loved your pictures of Whitsunday. What crazy games you play... Grandpa Lieser said that he received 2 postcards from you and he said that it looks like you are having a wonderful time and is so proud of you.
Lisa who???
Your Mom told me about the mew... Congratulations to Greg and Michelle on their new mew. Thanks for the get well message, I am feeling much better. Next time I have Pneumonia, I will take it a little more serious and take care of myself. Grandma wasn't here to Uck me. So Grandpa had to do it. Thank goodness that Stacy is only working on weekends now, she had to take care of me after she brought me home from the Hospital. Thank goodness she is such a good nurse. Next week she starts her Phlebotomy Classes. I offered to be her quinnea pig, but after she saw how hard it was for the nurses at the hospital to get to my veins and draw blood she doesn't want me anymore. She wants to find a better subject. Any volunteers?
