Cambodia is an amazing country. it is so poor and war torn yet the people are still lovely and always smiling.
I visited Angkor wat and Angkor Thom in Siem Reap. They were beautiful temple ruins that were built in the 11th century. However they were destroyed and looted in the vietnam war. We visited the temple that tomb raider was filmed in and we watched the sun rise and sunset over Angkor wat.
Cambodia has a lot of people with missing limbs begging because of the landmines and there are a lot of children selling things. Its really hard to say no to them especially when they surround you and give u presents.
In the capital city penom Penh we visited the genocide museam and the killing fields that were from the khemur roughe regime in the 70's. It was so sad to see the methods of tourture they used and the blood stains that were still in the prison cells!!! The killing fields were worse as they had mass graves of people with bones and bits of clothing still coming out of the ground and path we walked on because the heavy rain bought more up to the surface every time!! It was awful to see but even worse when our tour guide described how a lot of them were killed. like the woman were raped and then there babies were killed infront of them by hitting there head up a tree to get information out of them but then they were both killed anyway!!! We could even see the bones and clothes of them in the woman and babies mass grave!!!
On a lighter note we went to an orphanage in the afternoon. The previous night we had dinner at a restaurant where the profits go to the children and they performed some traditional dances as we ate. they were adorable!!! Especially one kid who calls him self micheal with westerners. They all have an english name but most choose names like rambo or david beckham lol. Michael was especially cheeky and kept winking at me and blowing me kisses while he danced lol.
When we visited the orphanage the next day i got to meet michael angain and all the other kids. They showed us there rooms and we all played and danced in there class room. The boys were all break dancing to american hip hop lol and the little kids we just threw around and read books to them. It was such a fun afternoon and they have a really nice orphanage to live in. They are very well looked after. I can seee why Angelina jolie adopted a cambodian kid, they are really beautiful children and so cute.
I leave for Vietnam tomorrow along the mekong river which should be fun.
