I know we'd both said we weren't going to go to Thailand but in the end we had a change of heart and decided to fly over to Bangkok and spend a few days with Cat and Brad; some of Scotts friends from home.
We arrived and the first thing they did was take us out for food, I let Cat do all the ordering and it was delicious! I could already tell that I was going to prefer the food here miles more than in Vietnam. That evening they took us into town for more amazing food from a street stall and we spent rest of the night drinking beer towers at one of the many beer gardens that has been set up. Everything was good except from the music; a Thai band doing covers in Thai, you could tell it was a song you knew but could never quite put a name to it and it was all a bit screechy.
The next day was NYE and after sitting and watching Scott and Brad play FIFA for about three hours straight we went to the local park which is home to loads of monitor lizards. Urgh they were creepy and massive!! (Please refer to the above photograph to get a full understanding of how creepy and massive they actually were). We decided to have a go on the Swan boats so that we could have a race, mine and Scott's boat obviously wasn't very good because even when we were peddling faster than anyone else we barely moved!! After the race Scott decided to peddle to the edge of the lake to get a closer look at the lizards, I didn't like this at all they looked like they were going to crawl onto the boat and attack us. Everyone laughed at me and thought this was silly until one jumped in the water and started chasing the other swan boat!! See I can tell what an animal is thinking by the look in its eyes!
That evening we were lucky enough to have been invited to some of Cat and Brad's Thai friends house for a NYE dinner before we went out. It was amazing, their mum and dad were so
lovely and had woken up 3am to go to the market and buy the meat and seafood! The food was lovely, as were the people and it was such a good experience to invited into somebodies home. I also think this might have been Brad's best night ever, not only did he get to ride a motorbike but he also got to play with a flying squirrel, he was very excited about both of these events! After this we made our way down to Soi Cowboy (one of the red light districts of Bangkok) to bring in the New Year before going to a club.
The next day we woke up pretty hungover and in need of a KFC, luckily it turns out that in Bangkok you can get any type of food you want delivered to your door! So we started off with KFC and spent the rest of the day watching films and ordering more food.
