So we made it up to Thailand after a fantastic last day in KL. we went to see the elephants, which were being looked after really well. we gor to feed tham - actually put ur hand in thier mouths , then a little ride - then play in the river with baby ones too.... incredible day - we couldnt believe how close we could get for again, next to nothing. We then landed in Chiang Mai and as we got into our taxi we had planned to just take some time out and chill for the day and book the trekking for the next day. however....the taxi driver was also a guide - so we booked into our hostel, which is more like hotel (MD House - if anyone wants to check it online) and then jumpde back into the taxi - he took us to see tigers - whichc we got into cage with and laid on... mental, but we were a little unsure about how well they were treating them cos they were all really sleepy and they sometimes hit them on the nose with a stick if they turned to see you stroking them... then we were taken to a snake farm which was completely mental. this dude - 'snake man' was dancing and jumping about with live snakes in this little ring and people were sat around watching - inbetween panicking - he would run over with ths snake and put it in your face in between kissing it and pulling away from it as it would keep launching at him to bite him - as you would if you were a snake being pestered. hwe brought out a few different ones and even proved that they had fangs in by squeazing their heads over plastic cups which then took the venom (sure you've seen in t.v) so then he made one go to sleep by stroking in backwards and saying 'sleeeep' and it just rolled over into like trance - then he came over and put the whole thing into my bag and left it there.... til he deciided to get it out, wake it up and throw it and me and pheebs - the snakes would slither out of the ring and up into the benches where we were watching. seriously - me and pheebs were practially on the roof we were that frightened!
then we started out trek. we begin walking through the jungle after a little warning of king cobra's and anaconda's, monitor lizards and 'hermits' (mysterious men with cow heads tht live in caves) 'whatever' - it was 12 when we set off so already swaeting in mid 30's heat... we walked up and down real steep hills, more like climbing than walking - all day - through local tribes, which were amazing to see - then we stopped in one village (well it was actually just four bamboo made huts and a river to wash in) and this was our home for the night. there were about 12 of us in one group and others joined. we ate, drank and danced around the fire - even incprporating to hockey-cockey at one point - hilarious! then we set off again this morning and after some more trekking we went to an elephant place and rode elephants through rivers, followed by a visit to a tribe of women with long necks...again - crazy - then bamboo rafting - pleasant - then white-water-rafting - great fun! so now were are exhausted - but about to move on to our next destination where we sleep then get up early for 6 hour speed boat ride over to Loas.... after much stress trying to get our vietnmese visa's in order to get into vietnam on 16th..... wich us luck!
