where has the time gone? we're about to fly out to London from Mexico which does not enthuse me at all.
puno was where I think I last wrote from but I know Niks has done a good job filling the gaps so I'll just add a few random points. The Inca trail was good fun but not as ardous as we thought. The porters made it into a luxury camping trip. I actually think we gained weight.
The rest of Peru was really good fun. Sandboarding and sandbugging was a real highlight. It was my first time snow/sand boarding which explained why I ended up wiping out several times and being caught in the compromising position of crashing and sliding down the dunes with no pants! Possibly a photo to follow. Talking of nudity, after a few ( too many some may say) pisco sours in the desert, I beat my aussie couterpart in a nude race up the sanddunes. All good fun.
Mexico is awesome. We're only here for a few days in Mexico City but we'll defintitely be back again. We just got back from the compulsory "vendor bender" which involves stopping at every street vendor and trying something different. Hopefully this won't backfire on the 10 hour flight. Corn chips, tacos, and a host of food I still not sure of what it was. A tip for new players is to make sure you take the menu translator out to tea with you. I ordered 'caracoles' last night as it was the specialty of the house and ended up forcing down half a plate of snails! Niks was not game but enjoyed the experience from her side of the table. So far my palate has expanded to snails, guinea pig, alpaca, llama and other things a didn't want to know about. We ventured out to Mexican wrestling for one night which was a bit different but worthwhile for a oncer. Unfortunately we couldn't take cameras but we managed to get one photo of "Mole the Marauder". As promised the moustache has graced Mexico much to Niks amusement, local prices for me! We managed to fit in a trip out to the pre Aztec pyramids which was well worth it
As Niks pointed out our travel company was a complete crock. I would advise anyone to steer clear of Budget Expeditions or Tucan Travel
