Overnight buses are horrible!! Ok so the beat buses at home, with a reclining leather chair, food and waitresses but still 15 hours on a bus is not ideal.
Arrived in Areuipa and jumped into a toy car taxi to out hostel. Honestly all the taxis are like little lego cars and they are crazy drivers. Forget pedestrians, traffic lights, lanes, pavements. Anything goes here, its seems to be each driver for themself. We were surpirsed to not see any accidents!!
Our hostel, Tambo Viejo was great, very friendly owners and staff who went totally out their way for you. Great garden out the back with a bar and sun terrace. Shame we were only here one night.
We managed to find what I can only describe as the Barras of Arequipa. One street full of market stalls of stuff you dont either need of want. It was roasting to we decided to be ladies who lunched for the afternoon on a roof terrnace overlooking the main square.
We were warned about the altitude, they said it may ,make you feel tired, sick and pretty all round lousy. We though we were doing beating it untill we found ourselves back at the hostel feeling terrible and sound asleep by 8. Probably a good thing as the next few days would hectic with a tour of the Colca Canyon....
