Sorry for the delay! Seems it was impossible to find an internet connection in Hong Kong!?
Anyway...
We arrived in HK about 12 midday on Thursday; very tired from a lack of sleep and the long journey, luckily our bus was outside the airport as soon as we got there, not so luckily my understanding of quite how long Nathan Road was lead to us jumping off the bus over a mile from our hostel! Having to carry our backpacks down the busy street in 35 degree heat was not Dani's idea of fun! But we eventually arrived at our "infamous" hostel in the chunking mansions - not the nicest atmosphere but it's cheap and in a great location.
Caught the evening view of HK Island skyline from Kowloon harbour and watched the somewhat bizarre 'symphony of lights' - the skyscrapers lights attempting to dance along to some classical beats....
Sorted our Visas and messed around in the science museum - learning has never been so much fun! Also visited the history museum, learnt about the Opium wars, development etc. - very interesting. Across to HK Island for the evening on the Star Ferry; great views of the cỉty. Had dinner at a bargainous street restaurant sitting on plastic stools and sharing a table with some HK teenagers.
Spent a relaxed day in Stanley (small beach village on HK Island) and ate in a cafeteria in HK central, was cheap but Dani's craving for wontons ended in disappointment as the meat inside them was abit of a mystery!
Liked Hong Kong alot, really great way to ease us into the East.
