Cinque Terre. 5 towns perched on the cliffs of the mediterranean sea at the top west of Italy. Having looked at photos of these town many times it is amazing to see them first hand.
We arrived yesterday and having missed the bus to take us to the town we decided to walk. Ugh!!!! It was so steep we were knackered by the time we reached the top.
Then we had to find our accommodation.
Not as easy as it should have been, after walking in completely the wrong direction after instructions from the corner store man, a kindly restauranteur phoned the number and the couple who own it came and helped us and the other couple who had walked up the hill with us to our room. - yes the other couple were in the same affiticamere ( I think that means room with a view?? )
Today was a gloriously sunny day so we did a walk from Vernazza to Monterosso al mare, it was spectacular and we certainly worked up a sweat, which gave me a great reason to swim in the mediterranean. Ah at last I get to swim- how I have missed it these past 6 weeks.
Caught the train back to the beginning town of Riomaggiore for a shorter easier walk.
Tomorrow another walk depending on the weather.
