Hey everybody,
LC and I made it back to Bangkok and spent a few more days running around the city via tuk-tuk. A tuk-tuk is a three-wheeled mobile casket that zooms in and out of traffic like mad. We visited the largest mall in Southeast Asia which is, needless to say, pretty freakin huge. After repacking our things, we left one backpack full of clothes at the hotel and travelled light on the overnight bus to Cambodia. Following a 12 hour busride in the country we arrived at and crossed the Cambodian border without incident. We took a 2-hour taxi ride from the border town of Poipet into the tourist town of Siem Reap. Siem Reap is a lot fun and Cambodians in general are extrememly warm and friendly. We spent the rest of that day resting. The heat and humidity of the area along with the hustle and bustle of people and traffic really exhausts you. The hotel we stayed at was amazing despite being down a dirt road alley. Very clean and the staff very gracious and friendly.
The following day we travelled a short distance to the temples of Angkor Wat. There are over three hundred temples to see so we decided to hire a tour guide and see the most amazing ones. The tour guide did an excellent job at explaining the history of the Wats and even recent history with Kmer regime rule and subsequent oust by the Vietnamese army. We visited 4 temples the first day and five temples the second day all by Cambodian tuk-tuk which is designed differently than the Thailand Tuk-tuk but just as crazy. They were each spectacular and distinct dating several hundred years apart in their creation. Ill attach many pictures. After the second day of touring we were "Watted out". The next morning we decided to skip the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, to save time and money and head straight into Vietnam. More to come on Ho Chi Minh City and coastal Vietnam.
