The big day is here. Our new camper arrived at the dealers last Friday - right on schedule. We went and looked him over and eagerly scheduled our dealer demo day for Tuesday April 25.
Yesterday, we had the dealer demo and picked up Miles. We went through the weight scales several times in order to determine how the weight distribution hitch was going to work with Miles and Max, our Titan XD truck. Came home just before rush hour. The duo behaved perfectly in wind and traffic.
We spent today installing new Michelin tires, loading gear (excluding food), figuring out where to put things, leveling the camper and setting up the weight distribution hitch up to out satisfaction.
We heard that the original Goodyear tires were improved from previous years. but when we looked at them, the sidewalls in the brand new tires had waves in them. We do not consider them safe to use and are very pleased with our decision to go with Michelin tires.
I was planning on washing windows and had the rock guards opened for access. After starting, I realized this was a much longer job and decided to continue another day, but we could not reattach one of the guards. It seemed that where the screw should have attached, the base would pivot rather than allowing the screw to grab and hang on. We headed off to the dealer to have them show us how to attach or to fix it. The service technician said it was a common issue because new owners all wash the windows right away and are not able to reattach the rock guards. They did not have new bases in stock but they glued the base and have parts on order to fix it. Rather than taking any chances with it, the rock guard screen is sitting safely in the garage. If glueing the base does not work, we may have to have the factory fix it if the parts are not here prior to our trip up north.
We took the opportunity to go back to the scales with our modified weight distribution hitch setup. We are very pleased with how improved the handling was and came home in rush hour traffic. The M&M duo handled all conditions even better than yesterday.
We are looking forward to our shake down camping trip close to home, at Lithia Springs campground. Let the adventures begin!
