Well we got to jump ship. Arrived in Dubai to huge heat and our prearranged transfer found us and drove us to the hotel Qarmadeen, just happened to be walking distance from the Mall of Asia and the Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world). We found the local grocery store and bought supplies, even dinner because Dubai is expensive. We managed to find a city tour for the next day and booked that, I found the gym, and the business center where we were able to book and print the remainder of our holiday, will be home 3rd June this year I think.

We were collected at 9.30 and had a marvelous city tour of Dubai, saw the palm island, the souks (spice and gold), the sail building, had a trip on the creek !!!!!. It's an unusual place, Dubai, all these amazingly designed massive beautiful buildings, but there is so much construction going on its actually quite messy. Sheik Mohammed wants Dubai to have the best and biggest of everything, which at present looks like he may achieve it, but I don't believe it's a sustainable dream, even with all their oil, but who knows. We went to an Italian restaurant down the road from the hotel, then walked to the base of Burj Khalifa, where what is supposed to be the largest musical fountain in the world. Well it may be the largest but it wasn't as good as the Bellagio Fountain in LV.

After a big sleep in we went to the Mall of the Emirates, which has a ski field inside it. We were there pretty early, even after a sleep in because shops don't open till 10am, but it was interesting seeing the massive entertainment area for kids, and of course it's all surrounded by the best of all the takeaway foods America can supply. We wandered around the mall for a while, then back to the motel to await our adventure in the evening.
We were picked up once again at the motel and the picked up a young couple on their honeymoon from the Australia and drove out to the desert. We then swapped into a huge V8 4WD, complete with roll bars and had the most exhilarating dune bashing ride of our lives. Marty was in the front and I have never heard him squeal like a girl before, but he and all three of us were having the time of our lives. The more we screamed and laughed the faster and more daring the big Arabic driver took it. He really really enjoyed his job and was very very good at it.
We then went back to the area where the dinner and dancing was set up, along with heaps of other groups, to watch a traditional Arabic twirling dancer (not a twirling dervish) followed by a belly dancer all intermingled with dinner. It was a great night, certainly memorable.

I had booked a ticket to go up Burj Kharlifa for 9.30 am and it was worth every cent. It's 165 stories high but we only went up to the 124 floor and had a hazy view of Dubai. We then went to the Mall of Dubai and saw the largest fish tank in the world, complete with fish :).
Our flight left at 9.30pm, so we got to the airport in plenty of time to have quite a pleasant flight to Bangkok, in fact one of the best flights we have ever had in economy, the plane was half empty so we were able to move to the centre with 5 seats, and I stretched out and slept, while Marty watched a movie and was given excellent service.
