We are now in Hervey Bay! Lovely hostel here...and its free! Included in our Fraser Island tour price! Beautiful sunshine when we arrived this afternoon so we were straight out to the pool, lathered in suncream, trying to build our tans! On the way here we passed many more of the very common sugar cane crop fields. 'Sonic' our cute little bus driver telling us stories about how they cut the crop before machinery...the cane fields are full of rats, which attract the deadly poisonous snakes. Many farmers would get bitten on their hands when cutting their crops and have to cut their fingers off within 20 seconds to stop the venom killing them! Eek! Off to Fraser Island tomorrow for our tag along 4wd guided tour of the Island. 3 days and 2 nights camping! Lots of snakes and spiders to be expected, oh dear! We can't swim in the sea off the island as it is a breeding ground of the grey nurse shark which would certainly gobble us up, but loads of beautiful fresh water lakes (no crocs!) that we will be swimming in. Chances to see the native Dingoes! These are sort of dog wolves, and we may also see dolphins in the sea! It rains on Fraser Island 311 days out of the year so we've packed our rain coats but hoping for some sunshine! No internet for a few days, will update with all the goss when we arrive back smelling a looking like pigs! Emms just came sprinting to the door of our room screaming to let her in...we thought she was being attacked by some terrible animal...but no..just an adorable possum jumping over her head! Haha
