Hello Everyone!
First of all apologise for not doing as we said and keeping up with the blog, but the internet in Oz was expensive!!
Since our last update we have done many things including going to Cairns, Cape Tribulation and the Atherton Tablelands at the top of the Eastern coast of Australia. Following that we flew to the red centre of Oz and spent a few days in Alice Springs and also a few more days visiting Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kings Canyon. We met some nice Canadian guys there who offered to put us up if we are ever in Canada! (so guess where our next holiday will be!).
After the centre we flew to Perth and spent a few days relaxing before flying to Africa. We also went for dinner with a couple we met on tour in South America who happen to live in Perth.
We are now in South Africa! We arrived in Cape Town after 20(ish) hours of travelling from Perth. We had a great time in the mother city, visiting Table mountain (in the revolving cable cars) and also taking the ferry to Robben Island and visiting the prison and seeing the cell in which Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for 18 years. We also took a day around the cape peninsula and visited Cape point and the cape of good hope, the most South-western point of Africa.
After Cape Town we went to Oudtshoorn, the Ostrich capital of the world! We had a really good few days here and visited the Cango caves, an Ostrich farm and a wildlife ranch. Two of the biggest highlights of our trip so far came in Oudtshoorn as we both got to ride an Ostrich which was very funny and we also got to go into the Cheetah enclosure and stroke some adult Cheetahs at the ranch which was amazing (pics to follow).
We had an early morning yesterday with the meerkat magic! The maeerkat man picked us up outside our hostel and took us to one of his research sites just outside Oudtshoorn. We got there before sun rise so that when the first meerkat came up from the burrow we were there waiting for him and that way they would accept our company for the morning! Then we sat and watched them digging and play fighting for about 15 minutes and then we spent the rest of the morning following them around forraging for their breakfast!
There were 19 meerkats in total and we were only able to get so close to them because the meerkat man has spent 15 years developing calls to interact with them and earn their trust! He was a real steve irwin type character and he so passionate about these funny little creatures! We had some photos taken with the meerkats that we will try and put on the blog site asap!
We are now in Plettenberg bay where we may try and go Whale watching if the weather is ok and we may also go to an elephant park where you can ride the elephants! After a few days here we intend to move further along the garden route until we reach Port Elizabeth where we hope to visit the famous Addo Elephant park.
That's about it for now, we will try and get the cheetah pics and the Ostrich riding videos on the site soon!
