Sébastien Loeb (current record holder at 8:14s to do the 12.42 mile track) eat your heart out! We've both driven up the Pikes Peak Highway/racetrack (at more like 30mins to do the 12 miles).
We decided that doing an 800 mile round trip to be able to say we'd driven up Pikes Peak was less far to go than doing another trip to America.
Andy drove up first and then we had to do it again so I could drive up. b***** were we going all that way for only one of us to drive it!
14,115 feet up we felt a bit light headed and cold. It was 3 degrees Celsius, snowing and hailing at the top. You can definitely feel the air is thinner up there! But it was so worth it for the amazing drive and views from the top. The road up the mountain is absolutely incredible. It's crazy to think that it's done at speed when they do the hill climb.
We were very lucky with the weather as when we were leaving the top for the second time a thunder storm started. The thunder and lightning was pretty intense but an amazing sight none the less. Now for 400 miles back to Albuquerque..
