Travelling from Towcester
Woke up at a reasonable hour for a Brit (ie middle of the night), accidently woke Mrs M up, despite my spectre like movements around the bedroom. Went and read in the lounge. When I got back Mrs M was up and ready for breakfast; a carbohydrate crammed buffet again with great coffee. A lovely sunny start and on the road to Woodstock (don't think it was the famous one) while cursing technology in general and the stupid, stupid sat. nav in particular. In the end I begged it to work, prayed to all the local gods, borrowed Mrs M's earring to reset it and finally got it going. Beautiful views, mountain, scarlets, etc. Got lost on our way up Route 12, stopped at Silver Lake, my new favourite spot, breakfasted in Rochester on Route 100, my new favourite village and made our way north thro' the most magnificent views to date. Took Lincoln Gap Road thro' the mountains, stopped for a very brief walk / climb then on thro' Bristol to New Haven then up route 7 to Burlington. Just outside the town we stopped at the Magic Hat Brewery where I was saddened to learn ongoing building work precluded a tour of the brewery, but cheered up by the selection of free samples they made me drink (including a small glass of their 3 year old, 18% alcohol barley wine "Just for people who know their beers Sir"). Onto Burlington Centre, parked by Town Hall and completely coincidentally by the Vermont Brewery + Pub. I sampled a selection of their finest award winning ales, Mrs M enjoyed a soda and then made the mistake of going to the loo and leaving me alone. By the time she returned I had a brand new friend Tom, a Norwegian he said (well his great, great grandfather was from Norway so he was Norwegian). Sadly I soon decided it was time to stop drinking and chatting and it was time to walk round the shops. Such a fabulous place, friendly people, stunning buildings, but a complete lack of consumer electronics shops. Back to the car and a 27 mile trip thro' initially rather disappointingly green trees, but later scarlet, etc. and to the Smugglers Notch Inn where I had the best fried chicken I have ever tasted and $1 a pint Budweiser and finally to bed.
