So we arrived in Cairns on the 23 Nov, 3800kms of driving later we're in Sydney. The End.
Well there's a bit more to it than that.
In Cairns we did a 2 day liveabourd dive trip to the Great Barrier reef. It was amazing and definately the best diving we have ever done. We saw 3 sharks in as many dives, including turtles, rays and loads of other stuff to much to mention now. We also picked up our caravan which is great.
From Cairns we headed north for a day to Cape tribulation. We drove through some great scenery and rainforest and beaches, some had within 1 metre of the shore line you could see sharks and rays swimming about as they do, and even visited the site where Steve Irwin unforutnatley met his end.
From here we headed south to Townsville in the hope to see Magnetic island and its legendary beaches, unfortunately a storm came in and we decided to save the, quite abit of, money for later on in our trip. From here we drove to Airlee beach which is the gateway to the Whitsundays.
We did a 3 day 3 night trip around the islands that included a bit of diving on the great barrier reef. The highlight was definately whitehaven beach. This is the kind of place that you might say " if there was one place i would be happy to die in, this is it" (Steph was almost happy to oblige Rob on this fact) it's that beautiful. After the beaches we did some diving and snorkling in the outer reefs. Although not as good as Cairns diving we still manged to see another shark and the biggest turtle we have ever seen. We don't exaggerate when we say it might have been the size of a mini cooper car, it was that big!
After Airlee we drove 10 hours down to Hervey bay to see frazer island. We gave our little blonde 20 year old female swedish companion ( not sure how Rob manged to become friends with her!), Cissie, a lift and parted ways here. She'd been travelling with us since Darwin and we wish her all the best if she's reading this.
Frazer island was great. We did a two day tour over the island and the scenery was some of the best we've in Australia. Bathing in freshwater pools with white sand beaches is hard at the best of times but not quite as hard as seeing 4 manta rays swimming past you from a cliff.
After Hervey we went to Brisbane. The city is quite nice and we spent the day checking out the town. At night we caught up with our films, reading ( Rob's reading the autobiography of William Shatner) and jigsaw making...yes it can get quite dull when it rains over here.
However before we got to Brisbane we did go to Australia zoo. Yes, that's it the place where Steve Irwin worked. Its a great zoo. Rob manged to pet a few Roos and steph manged to hold and try to steal a koala. Wait till you see the photo...there is an evil look in steph's eyes that we've never seen before..it says "if you don't stop me, i will steal it"
From Brisbane we headed south again to Byron bay. we only stayed there for 1 night but still managed to head out to Cheeky monkey's bar and show the youngsters how to party...we were home by 12 with a headache.
From Byron we went to the Hunter valley..it rained alot, we still manage to spend the day sampling the local wines ( 53 of them actually), getting very drunk and falling asleep....a great day.
We are now in Sydney at Bondi. We did try and see the Blue mountains but the clouds are so low and the rain so heavy at the moment it's just not worth the hassle.
We intend to spend the next few days around Sydney exploring and catching up with a few friends
On the 17th we head to NZ, so tata for now and speak to you then
