Hello again,
Since leaving Torres Del Paine we headed further south to the most Southern city in the world - Ushuaia on the Argentinian side of patagonia. Patagonia is shared by both Chile and Argentinia so you have to cross the border a number of times, which is fine the argentinia side. The Chilian side makes a sloth apear speedy and nimble.
After another 15 hr bus we arrived "at the end of the world" ( their words not mine). Its a nice city, few nice bars and restuarants. We did a boat tour along the beage channel and a days walking around the Tierre del Fuego, both of which are lovely but very very cold and windy. We were stuck in Ushuaia for a day longer than expected since buses only head north to Puntas Arenas 3 times a week, but it was nice to relax for a day and catch up on a bit of TV and sleep.
Fortunatley we managed to bring our flight to Buenos Aires forward by a few days and so only spent one night at Puntas Arenas which was handy since there is not much to do there.
We arrived in BA on the 17th and booked a rather nice hotel in the centre. Now this city is definately an international city and a great one at that. The atmosphere is great, the buildings are fantastic, the bars and restuarants are some of the best we´ve experienced so far, if not better than alot in London. We spent 3 days here taking a city tour, visiting San Telmo and Boca Districts, seeing a tango show with some of our friends from the Africa tour and saw one the great tango bands of the moment with a few friends of friends, Katy and Dougal. Both were great nights and we both now love this city.
After the 3 nights here we decided to head north to the Iguazu falls up in the far northeast jungle. We took an over night bus up for the 17 hr journey, where having experinced rubbish buses decided to go all out and get a full reclining first class seat for the return journey. We were not dissapointed. The seat folded back to a full bed, we get steak for dinner with wine and champagne or whisky for afters.
The falls are in the middle of the jungle and its roasting hot up there. We spent just the day at the falls and that was definately enough. They are pretty impressive. Not quite as big as Victoria falls but definately more picturesque and well worth the visit. We spent the night in great hostel that put on a samba show (brazil is just down the road) Both of us were dragged up to be part of the act, although the pictures of Steph trying to move her backside like Shakira are far funnier than the ones of rob being groped by the dancer!
We headed back to BA yesterday and arrived this morning. We fancied another night here as we loved it so much. This time we are staying in the Palermo area which is supposed to have the best nightlife. So we are hitting the town again tonight....it´s a hard life!
Tomorrow we head to Uruguay or as steph keeps saying "you´re a gay" when you hear it the first time its quite funny.....but not any more. We are heading the Colonia de Sacremento and then will hit the beaches all the way to Rio.
So on the that note its goodbye from us and speak to you all soon.
Rob and Steph xx
