¡Hola!
In the end I managed to get a 'cheap' return flight from BA to Iguazú by going directly to the LAN Airlines website, which was fantastic, as the alternative was two 20-hour bus journeys; I don't think my ageing body could have handled that. After my very relaxing 1.5-hour flight arrived at a really cool backpackers hostel in Iguazú, called Hostel Inn, which was airy and modern, like a big resort hotel, with pool tables, table tennis, a pool, a bar and big TVs for the World Cup - perfect. At the airport I met this very cute Argentine girl from BA, called Mariela, who ended up staying at my hostel too.We hung out together for most of the time I was in Iguazú, which was great for improving my Spanish as she didn't speak much English.
The next morning we headed to Brasíl to take a look at the view from that side first, and, of course, to be able to say I had been to Brasíl and sew another flag onto my backpack. There was no much there on the Brasilian side apart from a few hotels and a trail with a few miradors; however, the panorama of the falls was incredible and you could really get a sense of the scale of the place. After deciding to walk the 4km back across the border, we got to the Argentine side quite late and had to do a bit of Turismo Expreso, racing along the upper boardwalks to take some snaps and then jumping on the train to the Garganta del Diablo (Throat of the Devil) at the far end of the park, where numerous massive waterfalls pour down a huge drop. The Argentine side was spectacular, and it was just amazing to watch a huge river just empty itself down the side of a massive cliff in one go.I'm glad that we went to visit the Brasilian side, but it really wasn't necessary since the Argentine side has everything there you could want to entertain yourself for a whole day.In the end we only had a few hours there so missed out on this like the boat rides to the bottom of the falls, but to be honest I wasn't too bothered about that anyway and so spent the next morning just chilling out in the hostel before catching my flight back to BA.
The next few nights would promise to be good fun, since my very good friends, Martin and Lene, from Cochabamba, were in BA too.Plus, I had arranged to stay with Mariela for a couple of nights and then 'couch-surf' for my last two nights in Argentina.Argentina - this place was fast-becoming a contender for the best country I've visited in South America, up against Bolivia and Colombia!
