Tuesday 1 August 2006 - Colorado River to Grand Canyon Opting for the beer the night before we were determined to make it for an early morning (6am) swim in the river. Cleared up camp, packed van and set off for another long journey to the Grand Canyon! Amazing views of the Grand Canyon which we were allowed to apprecite for a couple of minutes before being dragged away by the tour leader. Some went on to do the helicopter ride. Not the best night for camping - thunder and lightning starting early. Sat in the shelter for dinner of lentil soup (tasted as bad as it sounds) and some pasta bolognaise. No shelter for Ellie and Lou who were dishwashers for the day. Dried out with a few beers playing games. Rita having a few 'blonde' moments during the games. "Lois Lane - what letter is that?" much to Ellie's amusement (who decided to be exceptionally careful with what she said!). Dreaded getting in our tents - like sleeping on a water bed, not a pleasent one!! Quite glad we only had to suffer a few hours before getting up at 4am to watch the sun rise over the Canyon!
