Hellloooooo :)
i think im getting quite good at updating this! well back on track atleast, im just in cairns waiting to fly to perth in western australia to meet alex for our road trip whilst rick is down in brisbane! we're all seperated! but ill get to that soon enough...
so we crossed the border into queensland (sunshine state) into a new part of our adventure. We were still a big group with all the boys in surfers paradise lazing on the beach and drinking with girls (i think i mentiuoned surfers paradise in the new south wales blog by accident but yeah ill skip that part and get right onto our next major city) which is non other than brisbane or brisvegas as a lot of the ozzys liked to name it. We found a cosy hostel called cloud 9 lacking quite some facilities (I.E kitchen!!!!!) and a carpet in my room but still.. it had a nice roof chill out area and cool peeps that we made friends with. We stayed in brisbane in a 3 aslong as 4 weeks maybe just a little longer. This was due to the fact we came to the crappy part in our trip when we finally had to earn some money lol yes i know, we spent a lot of money so far but we've had lots of fun so what the hell. I worked in a packing fragrance warehouse with plenty of old women, oh the joys! Rick worked in a clothing warehouse with even more old women haha and alex did a few random laboring jobs cash in hand which pretty much sorted him out untill he goes home in oct. We did the odd job here and there on the weekeeds too which included Helena cleaning services. lol Ok so helena was an ozzy women who owned two massive fluffy dogs which looked a lot like lassy, a purple station wagon with lots of cleaning items and a very nice perm. She picked us up on our first day, when we got in the car me rick and alex had to squeeze into the back with these two massive dogs sat on our laps and lots of mop sticks sticking into the back of our necks. She also brought along an ortistic guy name john who was obsessed with horror films and deffinatly could direct one i tell you that!! So she drove us two hour into this national park to a new relaxation centre which was about to open in following months. We stayed the whole weekend and cleaned (well, alex did but me and rick just kinda chilled out lol) and got lots of free bbq and other good food. it was a pretty crazy spontanious weekend but we loved it and we did plenty more work for helena after that too!
So when it was time to leave brisbane after lots of work, lots of stagg chilli, starbucks, crazy nights out in the valley and spartan (rick) we left for a 3 day 2 night canoeing safari in noosa heads up the coast....
We got picked up by some ozzy guy and collected some others for the trip which included Ed (essex) some random competative germans, the most annoying french guy you'l ever meet, a fit scottish lass, some chinese guy names thomas who had nice biscuits and two nimphamaniatic canadian girls (who wernt even worth the effort let me assure you) haha when we picked up all our camping and cooking equipment for the weekend we got told it was a self guided tour!!! which was scary but awesome at the same time. So we got a boast out to a random hut in the middle of the everglades, got given barrels for our belongings and a canoe with 3 seats. We paddeled down the stream past beautiful scenery for about an hour and a half to get to our camp. we set up camp on the most uncomfy ground in the world which actually made us not want to sleep and made some stagg chilli on our awesome cool camping cooker whoooo!
That night we got pissed off goon and told crazy stories around a cooker burner for light with the gang and had a laugh scaring all the bush turkeys and rats away with a torch hehe. The next day we paddeled upstream to a hour and a half treck through forest, outback, and spiderwebs up a mountain. This was ultimatly rewarding as when we eventually got to our destination (the sandpatch) it appeared as a huge (HUUUGE) patch of sand on top of a mountain which was more cool than it sounds. The views were beauituful, we stayed and had lunch then set off back before dark (see photos) The trip was all going great untill the morning we had to set off back. OH MY GOD it was like a monsoon had hit us at the wrong time. We packed up our things as best we could in the rain and paddled back to our meeting point to get the boat home, we got absaloutly drenched lol the canoe even filled up with water for a possible sinking but it was fine in the end, i reckon we got there just in time :)
We got back to our hostel and made a huge amount of burgers and sausages and feasted before it was time for rick to leave us and go back down to brisbane to earn money for asia where he now remains untill the 1st of sept when he flys to singapore.
Me and alex on the otherhand got a crazy 27 hour coach ride all the way up to tropical cairns and had a cracking time. The weather (despite it being winter) during the day was never actually below 30 degrees so we had a bbq on the beach and chilled out by the lagoon, a few pints of strongy B and a bit of sunburn :) Alex has now left me as his perth flights from cairns left last night and my flight leaves early tomorrow morning where ill meet him for our west coast road trip.
So speak next time everyone, thats if we survive the outback ;)
