So here we are in Brisbane airport with a mere 9 hours to kill. Might as well update the blog then!
Hong Kong -- so where to start... well there's alot of very big buildings.Theres a lot of people. There's a lot of traffic. Though most of all there are a hell of a lot of shops! A real salute to capitalism within the communist heartland!
Anyway, Day 1 (well Sunday afternoon) was spent getting our bearings. This consisted of mainly wandering around in abit of a daze amongst the chaos that was Causeway Bay. Went up a rather large skyscraper, was disgusted by the sheer number of resturants selling shark fin's in various forms, and got generally lost. Quickly became apparent that Hong Kong and veggies dont really mix but eventually found somewhere.
On Day 2 we tried to tick off all the touristy things that we possibly could. This involved going up the peak (big mountain backdrop to Hong Kong) on a tram, crossing the harbour on a ferry and visiting the night markets in Kowloon. Took numerous photos of the rather splendid views. I was most upset to find the rummours of 8 pound pints of beer was entirely true!
On Day 3 we decided to chill a bit and rest our feet. This involved a nice train ride then a spectacular cable car ride to a cliff top monastery. We would give you the name though unfortunately have not got our guide books on us. Oh Naomi's got the name.. Ngong Ping. Anyway, very nice views and a great big Buddha, what more could you want!
Last day in Hong Kong was spent playing on the various escalators (including the worlds longest apparently) and visiting the zoo. All in all a more relaxed day. Next stop, Auckland!
