Interesting and thought provoking trip. We left lake Arrowhead this morning driving 20 plus miles on the Rim of the World highway - and it's no better coming down than going up but we were on the mountain side for most of the time. We have just walked back from Venice beach and Muscle beach after having a meal at the English pub - a nice 7 mile walk.

Attended an Elvis Presley tribute concert in the village last evening and today we took some more of 'those'roads up to the Wildlife Haven a sanctuary for orphan or road damaged bears. We are now getting ready for the next leg of our trip tomorrow. We shall be leaving early as it appears there will be a lot of folks going away for the 4th celebrations.

Continued exploration of the lake and saw the original dam plus the replacement dam needed after the earthquake of 1920 ish. The enclosed middle lake maintains the crack damage on the original dam. Saw some extremely expensive homes but the driveways appeared to be at 45 degrees. Temperatures continue to rise well into the 90s in this region and up to 129 in Death Valley (glad we are not going there!).

Quiet day today. Spent time at the mall. Temperature on excess of 90 degrees. Forecast is 105 by weekend. Thanks Jane I think a buffalo gun would be as useful

Went into the village today and went on the Arrowhead Queen for a trip around the Lake far more extensive than at first sight. Had a full historical lesson as to why the lake was formed by the Mormons in the 1870s. Found there is an animal sanctuary for bears and other wild creatures and will be going there on Saturday before getting ready for our next destination. Only 3 types of rattle snake around here!!!!
