Last time we wrote we had just arrived in the Panamanian hills (Boquete) and, as the hip young travellers we are, later learned it was the number 4 retirement desination in the world! Needless to say, we fitted in lovely.
It was a relief to have some cooler weather and get a couple of previously unused items from our packs - our sexy fleeces and the mossie net. Both mainly due to us staying in a treehouse by the river with gaps all around the roof.
Our journey there on a 'colectivo' (local bus) had been improved no end by the search from THE hottest policewoman (both agreed on this) we have ever seen - we are talking hollywood hot latino :) Unfortunately we were not looking suspicious enough in our stylish outfits for a frisking...
Our coffee tour was surprisingly good and we were full of facts and figures about coffee at least 5% of which are still in our memory. Just a couple - Panamanian coffee is the most expensive in the world (a particular variety anyway), more than the cat poo one from Indonesia and to all those (including us) instant coffee drinkers out there - the 'coffee' they use is all the fungal infected beans, twigs and any other paraphenalia from the processing. The tour was also accompanied by a wonderful coincidence - the meeting of a man from Cheddar with a man from Gouda (who actually works in a Gouda factory!) - insert cheesey gag here - it was mostly the girls that found this amusing though as we men discussed the finer points of whose cheese is better/more popular.
We spent the next few days hiking in the surrounding hills and walking 2 hours out of our way in 35 degree to find, of all things, a natural HOT spring. It was conveniently close to the river to cool off though.
Then we started our slightly epic 4 bus, 10 hour (starting at 5:50am) trip to Costa Rica. After a brief over-nighter in one of South Costa Rica's bigger towns we caught another 2 buses today to come to the coast. What can we say - its like a bounty advert but with Sloths!
We hiked around the rainforest in Panama City and not a peep - here there was one hanging round above the bus stop!
